Children's show funded by foundation

  POPLARVILLE - Pearl River Community College brought a Broadway musical to area elementary students through a grant from the Lower Pearl River Valley Foundation.
  The $6,000 grant allowed PRCC to bring A Year with Frog and Toad to Poplarville on Oct. 4 for students in Pearl River and Hancock counties.

Servesafe training coming up

  Pearl River Community College will offer a one-day Servsafe class on Tuesday, Dec. 13, at the Lowery A. Woodall Advanced Technology Center.
  Servesafe is a training program of the National Restaurant Association for workers in the food industry.
  Cost is $150 and includes lunch. Payment can be by debit or credit card, cashier’s check or money order.
  The class will meet from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. with the test administered the same day. Those interested in the course should register early enough to obtain and review class materials before the class is held.

Women's Health Symposium receives funding

  POPLARVILLE - The Lower Pearl River Valley Foundation has renewed its sponsorship of the Pearl River Community College Women’s Health Symposium.
  The foundation presented a grant of $17,000 to PRCC President Dr. William Lewis and symposium chairman Dr. Jennifer Seal on Wednesday, Nov. 16.

Marty Stuart tickets still available

  POPLARVILLE - Tickets remain available for Saturday’s concert by Marty Stuart and The Fabulous Superlatives at Pearl River Community College.
  Tickets are $25 and $35 for the show that will start at 7 p.m. Nov. 19 in the Ethel Holden Brownstone Center for the Arts.
  Stuart, born in Philadelphia, Miss., began playing professionally at age 13 as the mandolinist with Lester Flatt’s road band. In his twenties, he toured with Johnny Cash and played with such country music legends as Bill Monroe, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins. By the late 1980s, Stuart was a solo artist.

Workforce class roofs Picayune park pavilion

  POPLARVILLE - A Pearl River Community College workforce construction class recently roofed a pavilion at Picayune’s Mildred Mitchell Park.
  “Actually working on a project is a much more valuable experience than being in a classroom atmosphere,” instructor Jesse Walker said.
  Walker’s drafting students designed the pavilion during the spring 2016 semester.
  The project was a collaboration between the City of Picayune, Collier Construction and PRCC. The Pearl River County Homebuilders Association coordinated and funded it.

Total of 115 PRCC students receive 2016 PRVEPA Round Up for Education scholarships

            POPLARVILLE – A total of 115 Pearl River Community College students from throughout Pearl River Valley Electric Power Association’s 12-county service area are receiving scholarships of $935 to attend PRCC this year, thanks to the generous spirit and support of the Association’s member-consumers.
            More than 200 students from throughout PRVEPA’s service area are receiving these scholarships to attend state community colleges.

  POPLARVILLE - Mississippian Marty Stuart will bring his band, The Fabulous Superlatives, to Pearl River Community College on Saturday, Nov. 19.

Spring workforce courses taking applications

  POPLARVILLE - Pearl River Community College will offer four workforce training classes at night during the spring semester in Poplarville.
  Pipefitting will be taught from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, starting Jan. 9 and ending April 26 at the welding shop.
  The course offers the industry recognized certificate in pipefitting, including applications for 10-hour OSHA certification, basic lift truck operator OSHA certification and NCCER credentials in introductory craft skills and pipefitting modules Level I and II. Cost is $250.

Chamber honors members of PRCC community

  POPLARVILLE - The Poplarville Area Chamber of Commerce honored a Pearl River Community College employee and the son of two other employees Thursday, Nov. 3, during the chamber’s annual Awards Luncheon.
  Carol Williams, PRCC’s social media coordinator, received the Citizen of the Year Award and Gabe Entrekin received the Future Leader of the Year Award. He is the 15-year-old son of Taylor and Candice Entrekin, PRCC electrician and nursing instructor, respectively.
